Our Guarantee

Sugar and Spice Bakeshop will provide a professionally decorated dessert in a timely manner as specified in the order request. We appreciate your business and we are honored that you have chosen us for your special celebration. We guarantee that the flavors, size, and general design elements will be met as outlined in your order request.

Allergy Disclaimer

Please be aware that although we have strict processes in place to prevent cross-contact there is still a slight risk of the presence of any allergen. All products are made in a home kitchen that has not been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. All products contain wheat, dairy, and eggs unless specifically requested otherwise. We do not offer gluten-free cakes as part of your tiered cake in order to avoid cross-contact when cutting and serving. All products are made in a pet-free and smoke-free home.

Refund Policy

Sugar and Spice Bakeshop will not offer refunds or exchanges for any products that meet our quality standards once a product has been delivered and accepted by you or another designated person. All products are the responsibility of the customer once it leaves our possession. Refund requests due to decorating style, color shade, damage, or flavor/texture will not be honored or considered. Please note, we do taste our cakes to insure the highest quality. Quality determination is solely at the discretion of Sugar and Spice Bakeshop. Our cakes are baked from scratch with all natural ingredients, and need to be kept out at room temperature for at least an hour prior to serving for optimal texture and flavor. Keep in mind, variety in temperature and humidity may impact the flavor, overall design, or texture of the cake to some degree. Please understand we cannot control changes in texture or changes in color or shape due to weather conditions. It is your responsibility to photograph the cake as early as possible in bad weather conditions and to have it properly stored until serving.

Care and Handling

We are not responsible for any damage to the cake after delivery or after setup is complete. The client/venue is responsible for providing an appropriate and secure table and environment for the cake(s). Cakes are heavy and require a sturdy table, and a room temperature of 75 degrees or below.

Sugar and Spice Bakeshop does not allow cakes to be picked up in order to insure proper delivery and handling to the venue. Should you or another party choose to take your cake to another location to enjoy, it is your responsibility to keep the cake box flat and secured while driving. Sugar and Spice Bakeshop will not take responsibility should there be damage to the cake after you or another party have traveled with it. Take care to follow all instructions on the box of your cake.

  • In the case of fresh flower usage on the cake, the responsibility of the flower safety and safe food practices will rest ONLY with Sugar and Spice Bakeshop as discussed in your contract.

  • All decorations to be used on cake MUST be discussed with Sugar and Spice Bakeshop prior to event. Should another party on their own terms decide to place flowers or decorations on the cake that were not previously discussed in the contract, Sugar and Spice Bakeshop IS NOT responsible for any harmful substance that may have been present on said decorations.

  • Sugar and Spice Bakeshop is not responsible for any damage to the cake caused by the placement of flowers or other items by another party on the cake.

Deposits, Payments, Cancellations

A non-refundable deposit of 50% for wedding cakes and contract approval is required to consider this an order and contract for services to be rendered. All celebration and small event cake orders must be paid in full at the time of request, and do NOT include a detailed design contract unless requested at an additional charge. The remaining balance for wedding cakes is due 8 weeks prior to the event date. Any changes to your order must be made no later than 4 weeks prior to event. Any changes requested after the approval of your contract may be subject to additional charges. All deposits are non-refundable. There will be no credit given for orders cancelled inside of 2 weeks for all celebration and event cakes, and inside of 4 weeks for wedding cakes. For cancellations with more than 2 weeks notice, credit may be given for a future order. This offer is subject to the date being available. If full payment is not received by the due date stated, and if there is no longer any response from you within 5 days whether by e-mail, phone, or message to Sugar and Spice Bakeshop, the order will be cancelled.

Delivery Terms

The delivery time will be confirmed two (2) days before your event date. Cakes may be setup 1-3 hours before your event. For outdoor events, we try to setup as close to the reception time as possible, which may limit design options.

The Client must disclose any adverse road hazards and/or obstacles that may hamper the delivery and quality of finished products. In the case of an unavoidable occurrence, such as an act of god, a car accident, poor road conditions, or dropping of cake during delivery — Sugar and Spice Bakeshop cannot be held liable for more than the price of the cake described in your order.

If the client or client representative is not available to receive the delivery. A re-delivery fee will be required at the time of receipt of goods and services.

Photographs and Marketing

We respect the privacy of all our clients. We will not disclose the identity of clients (photographs of people, last names, event details, contract details) without permission. We do however, reserve the right to photograph baked goods and use those photos on our website, social media, or marketing materials. We also reserve the right to use any photographs for display or promotion without compensation to you.

Rental Items

All rental items will be for a (3) day period. The day of the event and up to (2) days after. Sugar and Spice Bakeshop will collect the item(s) on the Monday following your event up to a 10-mile distance. A late fee of $25.00 per day will be imposed for each day the items are late. Should any parts be not returned or damaged in any way, the renter will be responsible for the cost of replacing the entire item. The rental rates, return date, and replacement cost is noted on the invoice or in the contract.
